Hidden Gems 2: So Much To Discover!

The more I have wandered Victoria with Hidden Gems in mind, the more gems I have come across. Not just places, but people, products and services.

The week leading up to Mother’s Day, was a hectic one here at VictoriaMom, but the past seven days have unearthed so many hidden treasures.

First up, Skeeter made an appearance, talking about her experiences with breastfeeding. That was a learning curve, we thought so many people would react negatively to what she had to say, but instead moms embraced her honesty and bravery at being so frank about a negative nursing experience.

Then literally on the same day, two new columnists joined us, Jordan, a mom set to review Victoria’s finest products and services for moms, kids and families, and Aleris.

Now we do things differently here at VictoriaMom, so Aleris is not a mom but is a single gal about town. And what Aleris is set to do is hit up all the places we don’t have time for, to discover where in Victoria is a great place for mom when mom is without child, babe, partner or employee! Basically, Aleris is going to find us our Girls Only adventures. Hurrah to someone who can still handle being out till 2am more than once a week (make that month).

Keep an eye on the site for these new columns and our About Us section which is coming soon (because you are dying to see our lovely faces right readers!?!).

As well discovering new friends and colleagues, this week I had the pleasure of reviewing a hidden gem of book by local author Kyla Plaxton.  Focused on creating a positive experience from our monthly menstruation, this book is aimed at those just hitting puberty, though you will see from the review that I intend to use it myself (and I already have – I love it!)

I also made a purchase from a local business that just blew me away.  Felt Food Fun!Felt.Food.Fun is a company run by a local mom and does exactly what it says on the tin, they make food from felt and it is a lot a lot of fun. I bought a can of alphabet soup with personalised letters and accompanying bowl. I almost couldn’t believe it when I opened the box, it is amazing quality and you can feel the love and talent that went into its creation. I encourage you to check out their wares!

So even though we're only two weeks in, we’re very busy here at the VictoriaMom headquarters (cough cough Moka House cough cough) and we are absolutely loving every minute of discovering new things in this wonderful city. If you have any recommendations, reviews or ideas for us, shoot us an email, we’d love to hear from you: info@victoriamom.ca

Enjoy this sunshine!
