South Park Playground (Douglas St. and Michigan Street)
This playground is used by South Park Elementary during school days, but it’s a great place to play after-hours. There are two play structures. One is old, mostly wood and metal, and in pretty rough shape, though it does have a tunnel slide that kids seem to love! The other is newer and has a couple of slides and climbing walls.
The park itself is a large open grassy area to kick around a ball or play chase, with some nice big trees for shade. It’s all fenced in, but there are no washrooms onsite.
The Pirate Ship Playground (Linden Ave and Chapman St)
We call this the Pirate Ship Park because the play structure is modelled after, you guessed it, a pirate ship! There’s even a spyglass to look through. The structure is best suited for big kids since the stairs are quite steep and it’s pretty high off the woodchip-covered ground, but there’s a play area in the bow of the ship and a small swingset for the little ones.
This amazing playground has it all—the zipline is the main attraction, but it also boasts a rope climbing structure (the spiderweb, as we call it), a spinning rope pyramid, two play structures (one for older kids and one for toddlers), and lots of swings.
One of the best features is the huge dinosaur climbing statue in the sand pit, and its six eggs that are buried in the sand.
Just outside the main playground are two adult fitness areas with equipment such as elliptical machines and stationary bikes.
This is a great little park, especially for younger kids. The equipment here is your general climb frame and slide affair with some balance buttons and monkey bars for good measure.
I like this park because it's built for smaller children, there are no big kid temptations. The two slides are steep but short and the equipment in general is just a couple of steps off the ground which should eliminate dangerous falls.
The equipment is new and in perfect condition. The floor is soft woodchips and mulch and there are two smaller kid swings and two bigger.
This playground is just off Cook Street by Wellburns supermarket. Some of you might remember it as a pretty rough area and yes, the needle deposit box is still on site but they have done a good job of cleaning it all up.
The equipment is all sparkling new and well kept, there's a couple of toddler slides off an easy climbing frame, and one steeper slide for bigger kids, though if you little one can climb, it's also pretty easy to get up.
